COMPLIANCE REPORT FOR 2008-2009

 

 

Curricular Aspects

  1. It was necessary to provide more options to students for their pursual of degree education in science. Particularly professional courses which are in demand were needed to be introduced. Although these courses have to be run on self financing basis and no grants are given by the government for these courses, college decided to start such courses in the interest of students’ desire to take admissions for such new courses. College had applied for few new courses in last academic year. Accordingly permission for B. Sc. (Computer Science) was obtained from Mumbai University and 26 students were admitted to this course.
  2. This year we also got permission for B. Sc. (Biotechnology) course from Mumbai University. Since this permission was obtained little late we could give admission to 28 students for First year of this course. However admissions can be given to 35 students for this course as per the permission.
  3. This year we got permission for M. Sc. in Bioanalytical Sciences from Mumabi. University. This course is run by only three other colleges except ours. This year permission was given to 10 students only but from next year we will be able to admit 20 students for this course.
  4. This year we also increased one batch of 10 students for M. Sc. (Organic Chemistry) to satisfy the demand from students.
  5. Also we increased one batch of 60 students in B. Sc. (Information Technology). 
  6. Commerce Department also conducted other courses like (a) One-year Diploma Course in Export-Import management (b) One-year Diploma course in Logistic Management (c) Course in C. A. P. E. I and P. E. II, of the institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
  7. Our college got permission to start three new career oriented course (COC) from University Grants Commission (UGC). Also we got sanction letter for grant of Rs. 24 lac in total as seed money to start these COCs. The course are – (i) Applied Biotechnology (ii) Computer Applications for Arts and Commerce students and (iii) Tally Package for Commerce students.
  8. Our college is a recognized center for enrollment of students for Distance Education for B. A. / B. Com. / M. Com.
  9. Chemistry Department conducted practical for students of M. Sc. course under Distance Education Programme run by Madurai Kamraj University. Number of students enrolled for this purpose were 150.
  10.  This year new proposals are made for continuation of B. Sc. (Biotechnology), B. Sc. (Computer Science) and M. Sc. (Bioanalytical Sciences). Also new proposals were made for additional batch of M. Sc. (Microbiology), B. Com (Finance & Accounting), B. Com (Banking and Insurance).
  11. Experts’ Lecture Series was organized by Arts department, Commerce department, Chemistry department, Physics department and Mathematics department for Final Year students of the B. Com and B. Sc. students of respective subjects.
  12. As many as 10 Guest lectures were arranged by Commerce Department on various topics like ‘Career in Air Transport and Hospitality Industry, Enterprise Resource Planning, Interview Techniques and Personality Development’, ‘Business Models’, ‘Automobile Dealership Management’, Career in Insurance’, ‘Art of Investing’ and ‘How To Face CAT and SET examination’, ‘Retail Management’, ‘Communication Skills’, ‘How To Conduct Market Survey’ etc. This was in addition to Expert Lecture Series which was arranged for T. Y. B. Com. students.
  13. Talent batch and Progressive batch were formed in B. A., B. Com. and B. Sc. classes for the final year students. Talent batch was for students who were expected to get higher scores in the University examination and Progressive Batch was made for those who were lagging behind in studies. Students from both these batches were given extra attention and coaching to improve their performance. Extra tests and solving of question papers was arranged for these talent batch and progressive batch.

  15.  Study tours were arranged for various classes. B. Sc. (Microbiology) students visited research institutes and industries in and around Hyderabad, B. Sc. (IT) students also visited Hyderabad city. B. M. S. students visited Jaipur.

1.      Prof. Mrs. S. S. Nayak was awarded Ph. D. in Microbiology by University of Mumbai for research work titled “Microbiological Analysis for Charactrization and process Improvement of NisargRhun Biogas Plant” for work done at BARC, Mumbai.

2.      Prof. S. P. Yadav was awarded M. Phil degree by Shivaji University, Kolhapur for his work titled “Preparation and Characterization of Spray Deposited Thin Films and their use in Photoelctrochemical solar cells”.

3.      Prof. D. T. Shinde was awarded Ph. D. degree in Commerce by.

4.      Prof. P. G. Pawar was awarded Ph. D. degree in commerce

5.      Prof. Mrs. Anjali Kulkarni of IT department was awarded M. Phil in Computer Science.

6.      Prof. P. R. Gune has registered for Ph. D. in Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik.

7.      Dr. R. J. Solomon has become recognized P.G. teacher for M. A. in Psychology programme of Univeristy of Mumbai.

8.      Prof. Dr. R. J. Solomon was awarded Rs. 5.35 lakhs for Major Research Project during the academic year 2008-09. His area of research is “Predictors of Adolescent Civic Engagement and Positive Environment Behaviour”.

9.      This year in 2008-09 three proposals were sent for Minor Research Projects.

Infrastructure Development and Learning Resources

1.      25 new computers were obtained for various computer courses. 

2.      Since the building of the college is 25 years old, some repairs with respect to water-proofing and new electrification were necessary. This work was undertaken as per plan for classrooms. Water-proofing was completed for complete terrace of college building.

3.      In 2008-09 work was undertaken for enhancement of garden area and gardening around the playground. In fact complete playground was redone by excavating and putting new layers.

4.      Laboratory was set up for B. Sc. (Biotechnology) course which was started in this academic year i.e.(2008-09). This laboratory will have facilities for practicals of 35 students at a time. Necessary instruments and equipments have been purchased for this laboratory. College has spent Rs. 6.5 lakhs on setting up of laboratory infrastructure and Rs.4 lakhs on the purchase of equipment.

5.      A laboratory has been set up for M. Sc. (Bioanalytical Sciences) course which was started in this academic year i.e. (2008-09). This laboratory will have facilities for practicals of 20 students at a time. Necessary instruments and equipments have been purchased for this laboratory. College has spent Rs.15 lakhs on setting up of laboratory infrastructure and Rs. 4 lakhs on the purchase of equipment.

6.      Construction was done in Library building and 8000 sq. ft was made available for additional activities. Thus second and third floor construction of library building was completed as per plan. There is planning to develop new conference hall and meeting room in this building.

7.      Restructuring was done on first floor of Administrative building. 5 additional classes were made available for the new divisions started through new courses.

8.      Also construction has been done of third floor of Administrative building. Here Boys common room and gymkhana will be shifted from 2009-10. Also some additional space will be available for other activities.

9.      As planned, skirting of corridors of main as well as administrative building and Library was completed to avoid damage to the walls          during 2008-09.

Seminars / Workshops / Refresher Courses Organized in College

  1. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College has been regularly carrying out seminars or workshops in various subjects every year. In academic year 2008-2009 our college had organized three seminars/conferences at National level. This includes UGC sponsored - National Seminar on “Fuzzy logic and Its Applications in Industry” which was carried out on 10, 11 Jan. 2009 by Mathematics Department.
  2. National Conference was held on “Human Resource Management in Post Globalization Era: Issues and Challenges” as the theme by Commerce Department on 17, 18 January 2009. This conference was organized in collaboration with Thane – Belapur Industries’ association. This conference also had Poster presentation session along with the invited talks. 125 participants were present for this two day conference. Interesting topics covered were – ‘Role of HR in Financial Crisis’, ‘Challenges of HR in IT Sector’, Soft Skills: An Ingredient to Success’, ‘Attract, Train and Retain Employees’, ‘Managing Change for Building Excellence in Organization’ etc.
  3. Career Fair was organized on 30, 31 January 2009 in which 40 stalls were arranged to exhibit career options for various degree students of Arts, Commerce, Science, and Management. Invited speakers also delivered lectures on topics like “Careers in Aviation”, “New Horizons in vocational Courses”, “Careers in Hospitality Industry”, “Education Abroad”, and “Take-off of a successful Career”.

  1. Two Days IT Festival – “Zeal” (The Next Rug of Technology): Charge Your Gears was organized by students of B. Sc. (Information Technology) and BMS students jointly on Jan. 28-29, 2008. Various Intercollegiate competitions like debate, quiz, share-e-bazar, ad-making, laughter challenge, fashion show, dance competition were part of the activity.

1.      Prof. S. N. Jogdand published third revised edition of his book “Gene Biotechnology in October 2008. (Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai).

2.      Prof. Miss T. G. kale wrote number of articles in local Newspaper, including one on the topic “Story of Woman’s Life”.

3.      Dr. L. V. Gavali has submitted research paper “Synthesis and Study of Microbial Activities of Schiff’s bases derived from 5’(thiazolylazo) Salicylaldehyde nd P-substituted aniline” to Indian Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 2008.

4.      Prof. S. P. Yadav’s research paper titled as “Photoelectrochemical Properties of Spray deposited material thin film” was published in International Journal – Solar Materials and Solar Cell (SOLMAT) in 2008.

5.       Prof. S. P. Yadav’s research paper titled as “Preparation and Properties of Spray-deposited nanoncrystalline material thin film” in International Journal – Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids. This paper was published in 2008.

6.      Dr. N. B. KadamPatil communicated research paper titled “Liquid – Liquid Extraction and Seperation of Bismuth (III) with N-n-hexylaniline to ‘Rasayan’, Journal of Chemistry whichis accepted and he communicated another research paper titled “Liquid-Liquid Extraction and Separation of Zinc (II) with N-n-hexylaniline to ‘Asian Journal of Chemistry.

Extracurricular Activities and Students’ Achievements

1.      Miss Deepmala Sharma of F. Y. B. Sc. participated in International Biology Olympiad at Singapore. 

2.      Rahul Retharekar of F. Y. B. Sc. (Computer Science) was a Gold Medalist in 100 and 200 meters at Inter Collegiate and Inter University Open National. He is selected to represent 2011 Commonwealth Games in China.

3.      Mr. Prakash Gosavi of F. Y. B. Sc. represented Maharashtra in Ranaji Trophy Invitation Match.

4.      Mr. Jagdish Lad of S. Y. B. Com. Won bronze medal for Best Physique at Mumbai University Inter Collegiate Tournament in 2008-09. 

Extension Activities

1.      With an aim to create awareness about importance of education in human life, “Karmaveer Marathon” was organized with the slogan “Run for Quality Education” on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of the Founder of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha – Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil. The event which organized on 28th Sept. 2008. More than 2000 students enthusiastically participated in the marathon.

2.      Extension work project activity of ‘Adult & Continuing Education’ of University of Mumbai was started in our college from this year. 40 students have been enrolled of which 38 students had undertaken projects related to “Status of Women in Society”. Students completing the project get 10 grace marks under rule 0.229A of University of Mumbai.

3.      Science Day was celebrated on 28th Feb. On the function held on 28th Feb. 2009, Scientific Films were screened.

4.      N. S. S. as usual carried out many activities throughout the year and it included Pulse Polio camp, slide show on leprosy, street play on AIDS, tree plantation, anti-dowry speech etc. 10 days residential camp at Gavan, near Panvel. Repair of road, construction of small bandhara etc were carried out as part of shramdan during this camp.

5.      Yuvati Melawa was organized as per each year’s practice in our college on 3rd January 2008 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule. Competitions of salad decoration, flower arrangement, ‘best from waste’ were organized. Lecture on Yoga and Nutrition was organized on the occasion. Ten outstanding women from various fields like education, social service, science etc. were felicitated as per the practice.

6.      Mahila Melawa was organized on 8th March 2009 on International Women Day. The Rag pickers Mahilas were present in large number.

7.      As part of community extension services medical Check-up and Eye-check-up camps were organized for rag picker women in Navi Mumbai.

8.       Gender Issue Cell is established in our college to take care of Gender Equality issues it functions as per guidelines of University of Mumbai. Gender Issue Cell of our college organized lectures – (i) Advocate Kranti Bhosale, Judge of Mumbai High Court spoke on “Gender Equality and Women Harassment of domestic nature and at work places”, (ii) Dr. R. J. Solomon guided students on “Sexual Assertiveness”. 

9.      In collaboration with Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (M. P. C. B.) we carried out a “Training Programme on Noise Pollution” for Police Officials of Navi Mumbai. 60 officials participated in the training programme. Two lectures and a demonstration session were held for the police officials in this programme. Noise measurement, legal provisions, effects of noise pollution, responsibilities of police in control of Noise pollution etc. were taught to police officials during the training.

10.  Mrs. Shubhada Nayak worked as managing committee member of Indian Women Science Association and helped for arranging talks of eminent scientists, book review competition, interschool project competitions etc.

All these activities help to inculcate values of Nationality, Humanity, Equality, and Respect to women amongst the students.

Lead Role in Ashram Shala Project

Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College has taken active role to support the education of Adivasi (tribal) students in 6 Ashram Shalas started by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha in Jawhar, Mokhada, Nashik, Ahmadnagar and Nandurbar. Although certain grants are available for running of these Ashram Shalas funds are not sufficient to meet the expenses. Chairman Hon. Dr. N. D. Patil has started ‘Dattak Palak Yojana’ in which one can donate Rs. 5000/- to meet yearly expenses of one student. Staff of our college collected donation of Rs. 2,95,000/- to meet expenses of 59 adivasi students. We have decided to continue our efforts in this direction in future to support this scheme.

    

Healthy Practices

1. Legal Literacy Programme

As per the planning done last year, One-day Legal Literacy Workshop was organized by Women Forum of college in collaboration with Yashwanrao Chavan Pratishthan Legal Aid Forum. Legal advise was given by advocates of Pratishthan.

2. Campus Interview and Placement 

Every year some students get jobs in the offices of some employers who approach for recruitment purpose. This year more concerted efforts were made through a systematic placement cell which took care of campus interviews and placement services. The result was so good that as many as 116 students got placement in various companies.

Events

11. College has established Air-conditioned Modern Fitness Center since 2003 for providing facility for exercise to students, staff and others from society. This year on 30th Sept. 2008, we organized an event on “Body Buildingto create awareness and interest in health, exercise and body building. Mr. Nandkumar shinde (National Champion in body building), Mr. Jagdish Lad (our student – ranker in body building at university) and Nutrition specialist Dr. vikram provided the guidance. 

 

Notable Achievements

1.      Hon. Advocate Shri Raosaheb Shinde was awarded with Life time achievement award by Bharati Vidyapith, Pune for his contribution to education and social cause.

2.      Hon. Dr. N. D. Patil Former Chairman of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha and Chairman of Local Managing Committee of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College was honoured with prestigious Keshavrao Jedhe Jedhe Award for his contribution in social work.
